Multi-scope vessel upgrades at the port of Las Palmas

Our client asked us to take on a wide scope of upgrades and refits to a vessel while it was in the port of Las Palmas. The work required was:

• Deconstruct the existing office, stores and toilet areas.
• Design and construct a large new warehouse areas.
• Build a new office and toilet facility.
• Create a new food preparation area at the rear of the galley.
• Install new internal air handling units and external condenser units to the new areas.
• Install two roller shutter doors to the warehouse.
• Install epoxy resin flooring to 23 wet room floors.

We created a cost-effective scope for the client and met with them to discuss how we would approach the project to minimise time, cost and disruption.

The solution

The wide scope of this project, which took place in a very busy port area, meant that we had to plan meticulously, and execute the project as efficiently as possible.

For the warehousing area, we installed heavy duty large lifting beans in the ceiling areas and the new roller doors at either end. We also installed racking throughout to provide secure storage. The food preparation was built while the galley was still operational, and we also managed a team of structural specialists, who were working on external windows and carrying out paint repairs.
