Emergency hydraulic line replacement for Yorkshire Water

Client

Yorkshire Water asked our team to respond to an emergency scope of work to replace failed hydraulic lines at one of its reservoirs. The failure meant that a critical valve couldn’t be closed, so the reservoir was dumping thousands of gallons of water.

The solution

We began by removing the damaged lines and pulling the water ingress from the system. We used rope access to install the new lines and recommissioned the hydraulic system. This was when we discovered that the system had been damaged below the water line.

To fix this, we used our position as principal contractor for Yorkshire Water to bring a team together to extend and manage the scope of work. This included:

  • TEXO removing the hydraulic lines, using a rope access technician.
  • Northern Divers inspecting all hydraulics and installing new lines underwater.
  • Hyserv pulling the water from the system.
  • TEXO reinstalling new lines and running full diagnostic tests.

Our multi-disciplinary capabilities and ability to run a wide-scope project allowed us to fix this important issue for our client.

The result

This was a very diverse project with a lot of safety factors to consider, and a need for wide collaboration across a range of technical and engineering skills. Using our pre-planning, risk assessment, auditing and safety skills, we managed this project calmly and with a positive outcome.  the wide collaborative collective of skills all being managed by myself. I found this project very interesting because it allowed me to diversify my project skills with pre-planning, risk assessment auditing and site toolbox talks to run through potential risk, allowing me to mitigate all eventualities.

This project was so complex we couldn’t think of another company that could cover all the requirements and manage it so well. The Asset Integrity team and Jamie smashed this project out of the water.” – Elliot Beever, Yorkshire Water.
