The TEXO Foundation has marked the opening of TEXO’s new Glasgow office by supporting local charity Juniors, helping transform its community centre and creating a lasting benefit for children and families across the area.

Supporting the communities in which TEXO operates is a central part of the TEXO Foundation’s purpose. As the business continues to grow and establish a presence in new locations, so too does its commitment to identifying opportunities to make a meaningful difference to local people and charitable organisations.

Following the opening of TEXO’s new Glasgow office, the Foundation was keen to identify a worthwhile local cause that could benefit from the skills, expertise and resources available across the business.

That opportunity came through Juniors, a Glasgow-based charity dedicated to tackling child poverty and supporting children and families experiencing financial hardship and other challenges.

What began as an appeal for help with a community centre refurbishment developed into a partnership that would see TEXO employees contribute their time, professional expertise and practical support to help create a welcoming, high-quality environment for the families who rely on the charity.

Identifying an Opportunity to Make a Difference

The relationship began when Lesley Robertson, Founder of Juniors, shared an appeal on LinkedIn asking local businesses to support the refurbishment of the charity’s community centre.

The post caught the attention of Chris Smith, Group Managing Director of TEXO, who recognised an opportunity for the Foundation to make a positive contribution to the community surrounding its newly opened Glasgow office. Chris contacted Alan Conway, Head of Strategic Relations at TEXO, who arranged to visit Juniors and learn more about its work.

“Just after we opened our new Glasgow office, Chris Smith called and asked, ‘How soon can you get to Glasgow to meet a charity that caught his eye?’” recalls Alan. “As always, the TEXO Foundation wanted to support the local community, and this would be our first Glasgow project.

“I met Lesley and the Juniors team, had a tour and heard all about the incredible work they do. It was obvious straight away that they make a real difference to the local community. What they needed was going to be a challenge, but I knew exactly who could help. I set up a site visit with Richard Lamb from TEXO Workspace Solutions and, as always, they worked their magic.”

Following the visit, TEXO committed to supplying and installing new flooring, providing tables and chairs, and creating a new bar area within the centre. However, as the refurbishment progressed, the team’s involvement would extend considerably beyond those original plans.

Going Above and Beyond for Juniors

Members of the TEXO team, including Gary, Chris and Sean, began work on the refurbishment, helping bring the charity’s vision for its new centre to life.

As with many major refurbishment projects, unexpected challenges emerged. With an important event approaching and the centre facing a tight completion deadline, Juniors needed additional support to get the work finished. TEXO responded by arranging for Gary to return and assist with the final stages.

Then another significant setback occurred. A roof leak caused flooding within the centre, threatening to damage areas that had only recently been refurbished. Once again, TEXO stepped in. Gary helped manage the immediate aftermath, protect completed work and keep the project moving forward. His involvement continued through to completion, supporting everything from practical repairs and finishing work to assembling children’s toys.

For Lesley and the Juniors team, this willingness to adapt and remain involved made an enormous difference.

“What started with one LinkedIn post turned into one of the most meaningful partnerships to come out of the entire refurbishment,” explains Lesley. “TEXO absolutely saved the day for us!”

The relationship also continued beyond the completion of the project, with members of the TEXO team maintaining contact with Juniors and taking an ongoing interest in its progress.

Creating a Lasting Impact for Local Families

For Juniors, the refurbishment was never simply about improving the appearance of its building. The charity supports families facing challenges including financial hardship, isolation and wider family pressures. Its ambition was to create an environment that felt welcoming, uplifting and dignified, reflecting the value of every child and parent who walks through its doors.

The transformed centre now provides a setting for children’s activities, family support, food and practical assistance, early years provision and opportunities for parents to develop confidence and life skills.

By contributing professional labour, materials and expertise, TEXO also helped reduce the financial burden of the refurbishment, allowing Juniors to protect charitable funds for its frontline services.

Richard Lamb, Divisional Director of TEXO Workspace Solutions, says:

“TEXO were delighted to be of assistance, and it has been our absolute pleasure to support Juniors Charity and the vital work Lesley and her team do to tackle child poverty and support families across the community.

“We are incredibly inspired by Lesley Robertson’s dignity-led leadership and vision, and our team is proud to have played a small part in advancing their cause. We would love to stay updated on their progress and explore how we can continue to collaborate in the future.”

Supporting the Communities Where TEXO Operates

The Juniors project marks the TEXO Foundation’s first community initiative in Glasgow and reflects the company’s wider commitment to making a positive contribution wherever it establishes an operational presence.

Rather than viewing charitable support as separate from its day-to-day business, TEXO seeks opportunities to use the capabilities of its people and divisions to support organisations delivering vital services within their local communities.

Chris Smith, Group Managing Director, TEXO:

“As TEXO grows and establishes itself in new locations, it’s important to us that we become part of those communities and look for opportunities to make a positive contribution.

“When we opened our Glasgow office, we wanted to identify a local cause where the TEXO Foundation could make a genuine difference. Juniors stood out because of the incredible work Lesley and her team do to support children and families who need it most. I’m extremely proud of the way our people embraced this project, giving their time, skills and expertise, and continuing to help even when unexpected challenges arose.

“This is exactly what the TEXO Foundation is about. Wherever TEXO operates, we want to do more than simply have a business presence. We want to build relationships, support worthwhile causes and leave a positive, lasting impact on the communities around us.”

For Alan Conway, the experience reinforces why the Foundation’s work matters.

“For me, this is what the TEXO Foundation is all about: using our people, skills and expertise to make a genuine difference in the communities where we work. Glasgow is our newest home, and we’re already proud to be giving something back.”

A Partnership That Will Continue to Make a Difference

While the refurbishment is now complete, its impact will continue for years to come.

The flooring, furniture and improved facilities will be used by countless children and families, providing a welcoming space where people can connect, access support and feel part of their community.

Just as importantly, the partnership has demonstrated the value of businesses sharing their expertise and resources with organisations that are making a difference every day.

For the TEXO Foundation, supporting Juniors represents more than the successful completion of a refurbishment. It is an example of how establishing a presence in a new location can also create opportunities to strengthen the surrounding
