We were commissioned to perform NDT and visual inspections on the main crane A-frame, onboard a wind turbine installation vessel in the Esbjerg shipyard in Denmark. This included magnetic particle inspection and ultrasonic testing of welds on all load path weld connections, in accordance with DNVGL and NOV specifications. Whilst onboard, NDT and visual inspection of the legs structure was requested by the client, in addition to the original scope of work.
We resourced a multi-skilled, rope access team for this project, including:
TEXO Asset Integrity mobilised the team to carry out the main crane A-frame and leg inspections, and to repair any anomalies, including weld defects observed on critical structures. Additionally, we carried out mechanical preparation and localised coating repairs. This provided the client with an integrated inspection, access and repair solution.
The client was delighted with the standard of work and the team performance during the scope of work: “The team always acted in a professional manner. They had a good attitude and an excellent response to changes in work scope. Their communication was excellent and they had a safe attitude to work.”
Steve Moir, Operations Director of TEXO Asset Integrity said: “Our teams are able to observe areas at height, and often it is not known what maintenance and repair activities are required, until we arrive and perform the inspection. This project demonstrates the value proposition with using multi-disciplined crews. Being able to match our can-do attitude with a varied skill set ensures that we are a valuable asset onboard, delivering great results and happy clients.”
