Subsea 7 tasked TEXO with a significant refurbishment of the existing coffee shop on their Seven Borealis vessel, carried out quayside in Khalifa, UAE. The primary challenge during this extensive overhaul was managing access and keeping personnel out of the active work area to ensure safety and an uninterrupted workflow.
TEXO undertook a complete transformation of the coffee shop, executing both extensive demolition and comprehensive new construction. The initial phase involved uplifting and disposing of existing ceramic floor tiles, along with the isolation and removal of ceiling lights. The entire ceiling system was also removed and disposed of, as were the existing stainless steel items, including worktops and sink. Finally, all wooden benches and tables were removed and disposed of.
Following the demolition, TEXO proceeded with the meticulous construction and installation phase. This included supplying and installing new white PVC wall coverings to three bulkheads and a new red covering to one wall. A modern aesthetic was achieved with the installation of new dark grey plank ceiling tiles and updated normal and emergency light fittings. The flooring was transformed with a new dark grey epoxy resin decor flake finish. For seating, new fire rated (FR) benches and tables were supplied and installed, ensuring both safety and durability. The coffee shop’s functionality was significantly upgraded with the addition of new stainless steel wall and base units, worktops, and taps, alongside a beverage counter, fridge, coffee machine, dishwasher, and a separate stainless steel
refuse unit.
The selection of materials was critical for both aesthetics and durability, with Bio Clad PVC sheeting used for wall coverings and decor flake epoxy resin for the floor. The new furnishings, including benches and tables, were specifically chosen for their FR rating and hard-wearing properties to withstand daily use by up to 150 people.
The refurbishment of the Seven Borealis coffee shop was a remarkable transformation, delivering a space that is both appealing and exceptionally durable to handle constant demand. The project was completed safely, on time, and within budget.
