Inspection of wastewater pumping station, sluice gates and associated infrastructure

TEXO Survey & Inspection were commissioned to provide drone based, aerial inspections of the infrastructure at a central city pump house without the need for isolations and manned entry.

The client was focused on understanding the potential breadth of use cases and the limitations for this type of inspection for routinely inspecting their assets. If suitable this would mean removing the risk to personnel and preventing costly isolations.

The Solution

  • A highly-skilled TEXO drone pilot conducted a visual inspection of the pump room.
  • The inspection covered all required areas and identified all potential issues.
  • The system successfully completed a full survey of the back face of the hanging curtain wall, which was previously considered to be unattainable.
  • A specialist camera rig with lighting and HD 360 cameras was used to observe the sluice gates over a period of one hour.
  • The inspection engineer was able to direct the survey and view the footage live from a second monitor.
  • The team was able to view the footage live and adjust their tests accordingly.

The Result

  • The full survey of the pump room was completed in just over one hour with a single pilot – a traditional inspection would require putting personnel into the space, planning, isolations, permits and require scaffolding.
  • The system proved the effectiveness of this inspection method and its removal of personnel from hazardous environments.
  • All data was provided to the client to enable evaluation of the captured footage, forming the backbone of their inspection reporting.
