Storage Tank ReCoating

The challenge

TEXO was approached by BW Offshore to address a critical challenge involving the re-coating of one of their forward storage tanks. The tank was being repurposed to hold a highly acidic solution. Without a precisely executed coating to a rigorous specification, the structural integrity of the tank and all internal equipment would have been severely compromised. The project demanded a solution that was not only robust but also delivered on an extremely tight schedule, ensuring maximum safety and efficiency.

The solution

Leveraging our proven track record in fabric maintenance and our innovative approach, TEXO formulated a bespoke solution tailored to the specific chemical composition of the planned storage. Our team specified and applied three coats of Interline 955, with each coat having a thickness of 500 microns, resulting in a final Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 1500 microns.

This process followed stringent industry standards, including a full internal wash-down and a complete SA2.5 abrasive clean of all structural steelwork, as per SSPC-SP10 standards and NACE Inspection qualifications. Our team was able to mobilise all necessary equipment and personnel within a two-month window from the initial client contact, ensuring the project could begin without delay.

The result

The project was completed in just three weeks – 50% faster than our competitors’ quoted timelines. This rapid, yet meticulous, execution was a direct result of our innovative approach and a high-strength paint sprayer that was used to manage the very viscous, almost solvent-free coating system.

The client was extremely satisfied with the outcome: “TEXO’s Fabric Maintenance Manager reacted very positively and swiftly to my RFQ in regard to changing a tank coating to a more suitable specification. Within 2 months, we have a team and materials mobilised, and the job was finished 3 weeks later on schedule. Very happy with the outcome.

This project highlights TEXO’s ability to provide swift, innovative, and highly effective fabric maintenance solutions, even for the most challenging and time-sensitive scopes. Our success was underpinned by a combination of meticulous planning, technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to safety and quality.
